Went to Boston's local weekly LJ meetup at the Common Ground in Allston. Was a good time.
Girls are in NH through the weekend, and Jess isn't feeling up to much; I might be up for going out again tomorrow if she falls asleep early again. Anyone local interested in hanging out?

Google Account Hacked And Stupid Password recovery process

As It happens the IDIOTS let the user change his alternate e-mail address. So the hacker changed that too... And google gives me the following message
"
To initiate the password reset process, please follow the instructions sent to your live.it email address.
If you don't have a secondary email address, or if you no longer have access to that account, please try the 'Forgot your password?' link again after five days. At that point, you'll be able to reset your password by answering the security question you provided when you created your account.
To prevent someone from trying to break into an account you're actively using, the security question is only used for account recovery after an account has been idle for five days. The Gmail team cannot waive the five day requirement or access your password under any circumstances.
If you're unable to answer your security question or access your secondary email account, we regret that the Gmail team cannot provide further assistance. If you're concerned about the security of your account, please visit our Security Center."
WTF when did i register a live.it address and google in all its wisdom decided that I shouldnt be able to answer the security question for 5 days of IDLE TIME... So if the hacker keeps using my account I will never be able to get it back... WOW. FUCKING IDIOTS.
IF ANYONE FROM GOOGLE IS LISTENING WHICH MORON DESIGNED THIS PASSWORD RECOVERY SYSTEM. FIRE HIM PLEASE.
FOR 5 DAYS THE HACKER HAS MY ACCOUNT TO DO WITH AS HE PLEASES WHILE I THE LEGIT OWNER OF THE ACCOUNT CAN DO NOTHING BUT TWIDDLE MY THUMBS!...
F U GOOGLE... I AM DONE USING YOUR PRODUCTS.

The Homomonument

This is the Homomomomonument, er… we mean the Homomonument, in Amsterdam.
Unveiled in 1987, the humorously-named monument serves as a very serious memorial to the many thousands of gay men and women who were murdered during the Second World War.
Homomonument consists of three pink granite triangles, which each form the point of one much larger triangle.
The eastern triangle steps down into the canal, pointing to the National War Memorial at Dam Square. The northern triangle points to the Anne Frank House, and finally the south-western triangle points to the offices of the Center for Culture and Leisure - the world’s oldest continuously operating lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender/transsexual organisation.
More information about the Homomonument is available on the monument’s offical website, as well as on Wikipedia.

For me M P Shankar means two things
1) Gandhada gudi - A movie produced by him which was a first of its kind wrt wild life preservation in Kannada movies.
2) And this
The above song is from the movie Satya Harishchandra where he played the character of Veera baahu, who would maintain the burial ground. My dad was saying that the song was so popular that the play writers of the professional theater of that time included this one in their theater version of the Satya Harishchandra play!

We then have our hero who works in a Govt pathology lab where all the worst cases are referred. And so he unknowingly joins the web to solve the mystery.
The book is good and not cookey like the one I had read earlier. Except that it has too many coincidences.

Also, we were thinking about going to Miami and then taking a train to a differnt state/location so as to get two different experiences out of one trip. Does anyone know of any good areas that are in train-distance from Miami that would be fun to visit? (We are thinking about Charleston, SC but we aren't sure yet). Thank you for any help!

We're flying into Frankfurt on the 28th and then making our way to Riga, my husband's old hometown. I think on the way there at least we'll be travelling by train, which makes the obvious stopping points these:
Frankfurt
Berlin
Warsaw
Vilnius
Riga
The last time I went to Germany I had a great time in Berlin, particularly because of Circus Am Zoo the hostel where I stayed. I'm hoping for pointers for good, cheap, central places to stay and quirky fun things to do while in these towns. We like the idea of meeting lots of new people, so hostels might be the way to go, (especially in Germany) but as this is nominally a honeymoon trip, we want to avoid the more raucous end of the party circuit.
So, advice?
Is Circus am Zoo still great? Other similar hostels to recommend?

Roald Dahl Plass

Roald Dahl Plass in Cardiff, Wales, is named after everyone’s favourite Children’s author Roald Dahl who was born here in the Capital, and the word “plass”, meaning “plaza”, is a nod to his parent’s Norwegian origins.
If you’re a fan of Doctor Who or the Torchwood spin-off, then you’ll immediately recognise this as being the location of a spatio-temporal rift in time1.
At the north end of the plaza stands a 21m tall water fountain (which hides the entrance to the secret Torchwood underground cave).
The south-east of the Plaza is home to the National Assembly for Wales, the Senedd. We looked for the Senedd before while touring the United Kingdom’s devolved assemblies, but it wasn’t finished then.
At the north-east of the square is the Wales Millennium Centre, a hall for performing arts. The front of the building has an enormous Welsh poem written across its entire face using the medium of windows. You can read the windows in Microsoft’s bird’s eye view imagery.
There’s more information on Roald Dahl Plass and Cardiff Bay on Wikipedia.

Millions and millions of tyres
Jul. 16th, 2008 | 08:48 pm
posted by:
gmaps_sights
Within the Sonoran Desert National Monument, Arizona, is one of the largest stockpiles of discarded vehicle tyres1 in the US - perhaps as many as 10 million individual tyres.
Despite being just south of a town called Goodyear, this is actually the work of a company called Envirotech Industries International, who have been collecting tyres here for the last 10 years.
The company used to recycle the tyres, and intended to start converting the old tyres into fuel - until the state of Arizona closed them down for multiple serious fire-code violations. Envirotech subsequently went bankrupt, leaving the State of Arizona responsible for the facility.
The imagery at Microsoft’s Live service has better resolution, allowing us to see individual tyres that have fallen from the huge piles (one of the breaches of the fire regulations was “Obstructed fire roads”).
If a fire were to break out here, the Arizona Attorney General’s Office have stated that it could “burn unhindered for over ten years”. To put that into perspective, in 1999 it took 250 firefighters 5 days to get a fire at a facility in Ohio under control - and it took a further nine years and more than $32 million to clean up the mess.
There are an estimated 3 billion waste tires stockpiled in the United States, and when they catch fire the environmental fallout can be catastrophic. Government reports stated that the pollution from the 1999 Ohio fire killed more than 10,000 fish in a nearby creek.
The Sonoran Desert National Monument is a small part of the 311,000 km² Sonoran Desert - home to several endangered species, and the most biologically diverse of all the North American deserts.

Maaan! Don't our dues love to make that statement [or maybe he said "at a appropriate moment he will make a appropriate statement!"] Ugh!
I heard that The Appropriate Foundation® is suing everyone for using the term appropriate! Heh!
I can't imagine that a few appropriate decades ago an appropriate group of appropriately minded people got together at the appropriate time and fought against the very appropriate British for something very appropriately called Independence. They were very appropriately headed by Mahatma Gandhi©™®. On a appropriate selected date, ie Aug 15 1947 [this is because the very appropriately named Pakistan decided like cry babies that they wanted Aug 14th as their Independence day] the British appropriately decided that they had humped the country enough and time to appropriately get out. And so they did [on a appropriate date of course].
Now 60 appropriate years later our leaders are very appropriately humping our country all over again. Except this time we can't fight for our independence from them since we are guess what already independent!
More appropriate posts may or may not be made appropriately here at appropriate dates and very appropriate times.

The above images were scans of four stamps issued by India Post on the occasion of the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi in 1969. The Gandhi Foundation of whom I am hearing for the first time have decided in their infinite wisdom that they own Gandhi and not the world!
Next I think they will ask the Indian Govt. to remove his image from their currency notes.
